I’ve learned so many things as a homemaker and stay-at-home-mom, but the one that stands out to me most is adaptability. Being able to adjust to any situation, I believe, enhances many other skills that make a person a good fit for a freelance associate, employee, and volunteer.
While at home raising four boys, time was spent on school, sports, community volunteering, photography, and helping out with a family business. I noticed that webpages seemed to be like a new kind of “business card”, and so I decided to put my formal education in computer programming and networking to work. I learned enough HTML and CSS to create webpages for our family businesses, and for some of the other groups I was involved in. It was certainly a challenge at the time to keep up with technology while working from home, but I spent as much time as I could learning about the most important aspects of web design and putting them into practice.
Most of the projects I took on were freelance projects for local friends and neighbors, but I enjoyed web design so much that I took on just as many volunteer projects. Web design allowed me to join together three of my favorite hobbies – programming, photography, and design.
I believe that my past experience in business as well as freelance and volunteer opportunities has helped me to build a foundation of self-management and trustworthiness. I place a high priority on integrity, and I always strive to have a good working knowledge of the tasks I am responsible for. I enjoy problem-solving and approach it well. Whether fulfilling a client-based freelance project, working as an employee, or serving as a volunteer, there’s never a difference in the amount of energy, dedication, or creativity that I pour in.
